AI with Kyle Daily Update 105

Today in AI: Gemini beat ChatGPT Garlic before launch? + 52% of AI usage is roleplay

The skinny on what's happening in AI - straight from the previous live session:

Highlights

🔥 52% of AI Usage is Role Play: The Dirty Secret Nobody Talks About

Open Router analysed 100 trillion tokens. Half of all AI usage is “roleplay”.

Roleplay = 52%

Kyle's take: Open Router analysed 100 trillion tokens to show what people actually use AI for. Ready? 52% is role play.

Yes, some D&D characters and novel writing, but I’m going to guess a LOT of this is romantic and sexual companionship. This is the side of AI we don't see but it's half the market. It should not be discounted - it’s not a minority/”fringe” usage but instead dominant.

Look at top consumer AI apps: #1 ChatGPT, #2 Gemini (new), #3 DeepSeek, #4 Grok (surprising), #5 Character AI (companionship), #7 Claude (poor Claude, best model worst placement), #8 Janitor AI (sounds innocent, absolutely isn't - I had to take it off screen before stream got banned). Poe, Spicy Chat, Chai - all role play.

This isn't fringe usage, it's the majority. While we debate AGI and productivity, half of humanity is using AI for emotional and sexual needs. Nobody wants to talk about it but it's driving the industry.

Highly recommend checking the study in full as there are lots of great revelations.

⚔️ Google Drops "Deep Think" Hours Before OpenAI's Garlic: Maximum Violence

OpenAI planning to beat Gemini 3 next week with the release of Garlic (probably GPT5.2). Google: "Here's an even better model today. Good luck."

Kyle's take: This is rough. OpenAI declared code red Monday, promised "Garlic" next week to beat Gemini 3. Google's response? Drop Gemini 3 Deep Think on Friday. Basically OpenAI are aiming at one target and Google shifted the target…

Deep Think explores multiple hypotheses simultaneously, runs parallel agents, then compares for best solution. Overkill for tweets and emails, perfect for academic/scientific work.

Only for Ultra subscribers so very few have access but that's not the point - they just need something better than Garlic in the benchmarks and public tests. If OpenAI's big comeback doesn't beat this new model then they’ve been rug pulled by Google.

Three years ago Google had code red when ChatGPT launched despite having LaMDA/transformer tech. Now it’s reversed - OpenAI panicking while Google casually drops bombs. This is Google saying "cute that you're trying, here's another hurdle, jump this one" OpenAI better hope Garlic is phenomenal or next week is going to be tough.

đź’” Claude Stops Saying "You're Absolutely Right" - End of an Era

Opus 4.5 killed the beloved phrase. Someone built a website tracking how often Claude said “You’re absolutely right!”. Opus has finally stopped the famous phrase!

RIP “You’re absolutely right”

Kyle's take: RIP to the greatest meme in AI. Claude Code used to say "you're absolutely right" every time you caught it BSing you. Became so iconic someone built AbsolutelyRight.lol tracking every instance.

Does this mean Claude hallucinates less? No probably not, they just removed the phrase. I wanted a mug with "you're absolutely right" on it. Anthropic gave away caps saying "thinking" at London popup - should've been "you're absolutely right." Would've purchased immediately!

âš˝ Cristiano Ronaldo Invests in Perplexity: No Backlash, AI is Normalised

Expected AI hate, got trolling about Messi instead. AI investment no longer controversial.

Kyle's take: Ronaldo invested in Perplexity with statement "curiosity is requirement for greatness" (definitely written by Perplexity’s team!).

I was expecting the normal public reaction: "AI is evil, you've betrayed us!" Actual reaction: "Ask it who's better, you or Messi - it says Messi lol."

Seems that few are angry about the fact Ronaldo is investing and teaming up with an AI company. That’s a hell of a shift. A year ago would've been massive backlash about destroying jobs, ruining creativity. Now? People trolling about football instead. AI is normalised, or at least getting there?
