Highlights

💰 OpenAI's $500 Billion Valuation

OpenAI just completed a deal allowing employees to sell $6.6 billion worth of shares at a $500 billion valuation. This happened hours after Sam Altman spent last week saying he needs more billions to cure cancer, then launched an AI TikTok clone. Several OpenAI researchers are now publicly questioning how Sora fits the mission.

Kyle's take: The timing is problematic. Last week: "Give us trillions and unlimited gigawatts to cure cancer."

This week: "Here's our AI slop generator!"

Sam's defence? "Reality is nuanced when it comes to optimal trajectories for a company." Worth reading his whole statement:

Translation: We need revenue while we work on AGI. Fair enough, but dropping Sora immediately after the let’s cure cancer speech? Rough timing.

⚠️ Delete Sora, Lose Everything at OpenAI Forever

Here's what OpenAI doesn't tell you when you sign up for Sora: If you delete your account, they wipe your entire ChatGPT history, all API access, and ban your email/phone forever. You cannot make another account. Ever. This wasn't disclosed during signup. You basically get banned from the OpenAI ecosystem.

Kyle's take: I'm shocked more people aren't outraged yet. When you give them your likeness for Sora (turning head, counting, voice samples - the lot), that’s it. You can’t delete it without losing years of ChatGPT conversations and API access for all your apps if you are a builder.

They've basically made it impossible to leave Sora once you're in. This is buried in terms nobody reads, and it's going to explode when people realise. I'll be posting warnings about this today…

🎬 "Sora Just Killed TikTok" - Maybe, But at What Cost?

Andrew Wilkinson claims OpenAI just killed TikTok because Sora removes the barrier to content creation - no need to sing, dance, or edit. Just imagination. The 99/1 creator/consumer ratio could flip entirely.

Kyle's take: We've just skipped the uncanny valley completely. AI video is now indistinguishable from reality for most people. Yes, experts can spot issues frame by frame, but normal viewers? No chance. It’s over.

the uncanny valley

This could be the moment where synthetic content really takes over. Video is the medium most people consume in. And if we’ve reached a point where it’s indistinguishable then it could be a tipping point in what we create/consume.

🔬 OpenAI Researchers: "We're Worried"

Several past and current OpenAI researchers went public with concerns. John Hallam: "AI-based feeds are scary... I felt concern when I learned we're releasing Sora 2." Boaz Barak: "It's premature to congratulate ourselves on avoiding deep fake pitfalls."

Kyle's take: The researchers building these models are properly worried, and they should be. Yes, they've added verification for cameos (turn your head, count to three), and friends need explicit permission to use your likeness. They’ve done a solid job of preventing deepfakes unlike Musk and Grok.

But I generated celebrity videos easily - they're already in the training data from countless hours of TV and film. And remember this is day two. Pliny has already jailbroken Sora for nudity - in just a day. Let's see what happens when millions have access.

Member Question: "Can you use Sora to livestream through TikTok?"

Kyle's response: Nope! Sora's limited to 10-second clips, 100 generations per day max. That's 1000 seconds total. Plus it's not real-time - generation takes ages. You'd have to generate all clips, stitch them together, edit then simulate a live stream... it's basically not built for that! This is version one though. Give it six months and who knows.
