The skinny on what's happening in AI - straight from the previous live session:

Highlights

📱 Neon App Pays You to Record Calls, Sells Data to AI

Neon Mobile is #2 in Apple's social networking apps - pays users 30 cents per minute to record their private phone calls (up to $30/day). The audio gets sold to AI companies for training. Their terms give them "worldwide exclusive irrevocable" rights to (pretty much) everything.

Kyle's take: They're definitely recording both sides then using AI to strip out the other person - that's the only way this technically works. The fact this exists isn't shocking. but the fact it's NUMBER TWO in the App Store is wild.

People are literally selling their voice data for pennies, potentially losing rights to their own voice for AI avatars down the line?

Their marketing is clever though: "Phone companies profit off your data. Now you can too." We already made this deal with Google and Facebook but they weren't this explicit about it!

And this brings into stark relief debates about privacy. A LOT of people do not care.

🎨 Google Launches Pinterest Killer Called MixBoard

Google's new AI mood board app uses their Nano Banana model to generate design boards from text prompts. Available in US Google Labs as public beta. Unlike Pinterest, these aren't real products you can buy - just AI generations. For now?

Kyle's take: This is classic Google - launch a cool tool that could demolish a competitor, then probably kill it in two years…

For fun check out killedbygoogle.com - they've murdered 300+ products.Google just throws spaghetti at the wall. Sometimes you get Gmail, usually you get Google Wave.

🇨🇳 Qwen 3 Max Flies Under Radar at #3 Globally

Alibaba's Qwen 3 Max Preview ties for third best model globally on LM Arena, just below GPT-5 and Claude. And now they’ve launched the full non-preview version, which is likely better. In fact they’ve dropped SIX new models in the past week or so including reasoning and vision models. Completely free to use.

Kyle's take: While we obsess over OpenAI, Chinese models are catching up fast. Qwen 3 is legitimately competing with our best models and it's FREE. Same with DeepSeek.

They keep trying to sponsor me but me talking about this isn’t sponsored! - this is just a powerful model most people don't know exists. Looks exactly like ChatGPT, has iPhone/Android apps, but close to zero brand awareness in the West. If you can't afford multiple $20/month subscriptions, this is your alternative. The real question: how are they making these competitive models while supposedly having worse chips? Makes ya thunk huh?

Discussed at [00:38:33]

Additional Note: AI can now pass Level 3 of the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) exam in minutes. Two years ago this was impossible. Now it's not even newsworthy. We've become so entitled to AI capabilities that passing the hardest professional exams is just... expected.

How quickly we become entitled.

Member Question from Joseph: "I'm coming from marketing, doing affiliate marketing, now looking to transition fully into AI."

Kyle's response: You can still do affiliate marketing WITH AI. AI itself isn't a business model - it's like saying "I'm doing internet."

You need to apply AI to existing business models. Take your affiliate marketing skills and figure out how AI helps that business.

In terms of vehicles I’d personally recommend either becoming the AI expert for your industry or build products using AI.

Member Question from Annie: "I was looking into AI ethics roles, but feel I still have lots of gaps as a digital director."

Kyle's response: AI ethics is super important but complicated - lots of people in the field are anti-AI, which doesn't help!

The valuable ethicists realise the tech is here and focus on mitigation: How do we handle people falling in love with AI? Sexual relationships with AI? Work slop? Check out CJ Trowbridge - their graduate thesis was on ethical AI, MBA thesis on future data centre strategies. Also Liz who runs Future Initiative. They know this space way better than me.
