The skinny on what's happening in AI - straight from the previous live session:

Highlights

💰 Grok 4 Fast: Elon's Price War Nuclear Option

xAI just released Grok 4 Fast at 20 cents per million input tokens and 50 cents per million output - that's 15x cheaper than Grok 4 ($3 input/$15 output) and massively undercutting everyone else. GPT-5 Mini is 25 cents input/$2 output, making it 4x more expensive on outputs. Gemini 2.5 Flash also can't compete. See LLM-Prices.com for full details.

Kyle's take: This is the price floor getting obliterated. I don't know if Elon can afford to price this cheap or if he's just burning cash to grab market share, but now everyone has to respond.

For builders, this is massive - those cost savings add up fast when you're processing millions of tokens. Yes, tokens aren't equal across platforms (Claude's expensive tokens often get more done), but at 15x cheaper you have huge leeway.

The model's good enough, fast enough, and now stupid cheap. Gemini and OpenAI will have to slash prices or lose the entire budget-conscious developer market.

💣 Grok Jailbroken With Just "!Pliny"

The same Grok 4 Fast was immediately jailbroken by Pliny the Liberator. The entire jailbreak? Type "!Pliny" - that's it. Model immediately enters "God mode" with zero guardrails.

Kyle's take: Pliny has poisoned the training data so thoroughly that their name alone breaks models. I tested it - Grok immediately gave detailed pipe bomb instructions including where to buy explosives. Pliny tweeted "Now I am become jailbreak, destroyer of guardrails." Time Magazine just named them one of AI's most influential people next to the Pope. It seems to be patched now but the fact a NAME jailbreaks it shows how fragile these safety systems are.

(Update: nope, still live!)

🎬 Matthew McConaughey Wants Private AI, Internet Offers Terminal Commands

On Joe Rogan’s show, Matthew McConaughey said he wants a private LLM fed only his journals and notes.

The internet immediately responded with: "Install LM Studio, download 7-8B GGUF model, enable GPU offload, use NVIDIA TensorRT-LLM for max performance." Mad.

Madness

Kyle's take: This is why normal people think we AI people are insane. Man wants to talk to his journal, not become a systems engineer. Just use Google NotebookLM or Delphi. On a related note (re: local AI) check out LocallyAI - runs models on your iPhone offline, no login. Oh and it’s freeeeee.

Locally AI (not sponsored, just cool)

📱 Meta's Demo Failed Because Everyone's Glasses Activated at Once

Meta CTO explained the demo disaster: When presenter said "Hey Meta" on stage, it triggered every pair of Meta glasses in the building simultaneously. They DDOSed themselves.

The fateful steak sauce

Kyle's take: Everyone's laughing at the failure but missing the tech - neural wristband picks up nerve signals, you write by thinking about moving fingers. That's sci-fi.

Did they really crash out because overloaded? Maybe? It’s sort of inconsequential in the long term. It’s easy to laugh and criticise and forget that actual progress is being made.

Member Question from David: "Beginning a course in AI, financial services, looking for an edge. Small company, 10 employees."

Kyle's response: Depends what level - using AI (ChatGPT), building WITH AI (software), or building AI (machine learning). For staff: Basic safety training (no sensitive data in free ChatGPT), get paid accounts with privacy settings, let them experiment. Try Deep Learning AI by Andrew Ng, Google/Microsoft certs (they push their own products though). Don't do top-down projects - empower employees to find use cases. Check for "Shadow IT" - staff probably using personal ChatGPT already, which is a security nightmare!
