🔒 ChatGPT Will Now Guess Your Age, May Demand ID

Sam Altman announced ChatGPT will detect if users are under 18 based on "usage patterns" and potentially require ID verification. Direct quote: "I don't expect everyone will agree with these trade-offs." Privacy and freedom now secondary to teen protection.

Kyle's take: This is damage control after the teenager suicide case - they had to do something. IMO Sam's actually handling this well - he's upfront that people will hate it but explains why they're doing it. At least he’s open about the complexity of the situation.

OpenAI's basically stuck between privacy advocates screaming about IDs and parents screaming about safety. Sam picked the lawsuit-proof option + trying to balance it out. It’s a hell of a tightrope to balance on though!

💰 Microsoft Leads £40 Billion AI Investment in UK

Microsoft announced $30 billion investment in UK AI infrastructure by 2028, including building the UK's largest supercomputer with 23,000 GPUs. Google adding $5 billion, with Nvidia and OpenAI also contributing. Total investment exceeds $40 billion, timed perfectly with Trump's state visit. Not a coincidence!

Kyle's take: This gives the UK a seat at the table, barely. It's all American money with strings attached - watch that digital services tax disappear soon.

But honestly, without this we weren't even in the game. The UK government's been making noise about AI leadership whilst offering millions when the game's now played in Billions. This is like drowning and someone lets you take a drag from their oxygen - maybe we'll make it to the surface, maybe not. Still just America and China really competing, but at least we're not completely irrelevant now.

📉 Fiverr Fires 30% of Staff

Fiverr CEO announced "going back to startup mode" - firing 250 employees (30% of workforce). Remember though that Fiverr’s stock crashed from $323 in 2021 to $23 today as AI destroyed their business model. AI giveth and it taketh away!

Kyle's take: Three years of AI eating their lunch and NOW the CEO discovers AI is exciting? This doesn’t feel like pivoting to AI-first, it's using AI as cover for failure.

Truth is, ChatGPT has replaced Fiverr’s entire value proposition (cheap freelance work). Being "leaner" doesn't fix having no product anyone needs. They're done…

Kyle's response: Not yet - I broke my own rule and started adding features! Now it generates landing pages natively inside the app, which I promised myself I wouldn't do but couldn't resist.
