The skinny on what's happening in AI - straight from the previous live session:

Highlights

💰 Larry Ellison Is Now Earth's Richest Person

Oracle's co-founder and CTO Larry Ellison has overtaken Elon Musk as the world's richest person, hitting a personal net worth of $394 billion (up $101 billion in a day!!) after Oracle signed a massive $300 billion cloud computing deal with OpenAI over five years. Oracle's stock soared as investors realised their cloud infrastructure business could rake in $144 billion over the next four years.

Kyle's take: The real money in AI isn't with the flashy model builders - it's the boring infrastructure companies making bank. While OpenAI expects $12.7 billion in revenue this year, Oracle's pulling in three times that from cloud services. Same story with Nvidia hitting $4 trillion in market cap. The money is in the plumbing behind all the “cool” stuff.

Remember: the picks and shovels always win in a gold rush. If you're investing, look at the companies one layer behind the unicorns - that's where the real money is.

📊 Claude Can Now Create Excel Files (And It's Brilliant)

Anthropic quietly rolled out file creation for Claude - it can now build Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoints, Word docs, and PDFs directly in chat. Available for Max/Team/Enterprise users now, coming to Pro users in weeks.

Kyle's take: This is one of those boring updates that could actually change everything. I tested it live on stream (thanks Anthropic for the MAX plan!) and it seems genuinely useful for creating reports and analysis.

Like all their announcements though this risk slipping under the radar. They aren’t as good as hyping up their product as OpenAI!

🔊 ChatGPT Standard Voice Mode Gets Stay of Execution

At the last OpenAI product launch we heard they were planning to kill standard voice mode completely in favour of advanced voice mode. The outcry was so massive they've backed down. For now! Nick Turley (VP of the ChatGPT app) says they'll keep standard mode whilst they fix the issues with advanced mode.

Kyle's take: Advanced voice mode is like talking to someone who's had too much coffee - constantly interrupting with "mm-hmm" and "oh interesting!" when you're just trying to dump your thoughts.

I use a workaround - tell it not to interrupt until you say a specific word like "over." Let’s me pretend to be a cool Special Ops guy too…yeah I’m that cool.

But honestly, the fact OpenAI keeps bending to public pressure is a little worrying. First GPT-5 and the subsequent 4o legacy rollbacks, now this. There’s listening to feedback and there is building by committee.

Member Question about Supabase: "Are you using Supabase to connect to Lovable? Is it free?"

Kyle's response: Yes, it's free to start. You get two projects on Supabase's hobby plan, which is perfect for testing and building. Heads up though if you start getting proper traffic, you'll hit the limitations quickly and need to upgrade to $25/month.

Each additional project after that is +$10/month. I'm actually looking at setting up my own VPS to host all my toy projects because those monthly fees add up when you're building lots of small experiments. But for most business use cases where the app is making or saving you money, Supabase pricing is perfectly reasonable. Just be aware that "free" means "free until you succeed." Which is fair enough!
